There is something unusual about leading a school that is brand new. You do not inherit traditions, old habits, or the comfortable excuse of “this is how we have always done it.” Everything you build, you build from scratch. That is both the challenge and the privilege of being at K.R. Mangalam World School, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad.
When I took on this role, the question I kept coming back to was simple: what kind of school would I want my own child to walk into every morning? Not on paper. Not in a brochure. In reality. Would the teachers know them by name? Would someone notice if they were having a bad week? Would they come home curious, not just tired?
That is the school we are trying to build here. It is not a finished product. A new campus never is. However, the foundation is right, and I believe that matters more than polish.
I have spent enough years in education to know that marks alone do not tell you much about a child. A student who scores 95% but cannot hold a conversation, handle a disagreement, or work with someone they do not like is not educated. They are trained. There is a difference.
At this campus in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, we follow the CBSE curriculum aligned with NEP 2020. The academics are rigorous, and they should be. However, what runs alongside the academics is equally deliberate: sports every week, not once a month—art and music with actual specialist teachers, not a class teacher doing their best. Counsellors students can actually talk to. A Robotics Lab and a STEAM Studio where things get built, broken, and figured out. Career conversations starting from Grade VIII, early enough to mean something.
Schools spend a lot of time talking about infrastructure, curriculum frameworks, and programme names. All of that matters. However, the thing that actually shapes a child’s experience is the culture of the building. How do adults here treat each other? How does a teacher respond when a student makes a mistake? What happens when two children have a conflict? Is the cafeteria food something we would eat ourselves?
These are the things I pay attention to every single day because a child who feels safe, respected, and genuinely known by the people around them will learn. A child who does not feel those things will struggle, no matter how impressive the lab equipment is.
If you are considering this school for your child, I would rather you visit than take my word for it. Walk through the classrooms during a regular school day, not during an open house when everything is staged. Talk to a teacher. Watch how students move through the corridors. That will tell you more about this school than any message I can write on a website.
We are building something here in Indirapuram, Ghaziabad that I am genuinely proud of. It is early days, and there is still a lot of work to do. However, the team we have, the families who have joined us, and the children who walk in every morning make me believe we are headed in the right direction.
