Most schools have a computer lab and maybe an art room. At K.R. Mangalam World School, Indirapuram, Ghaziabad, we have set up ten dedicated spaces where students work with their hands, not just their notebooks. We call them Skill Studios because that is what they are: places where skills get built through practice, not theory.
Painting, illustration, digital design, photography. The studio has supplies and tools for different media. Students do not just draw here. They learn to see, compose, and express ideas visually. Some of the best conversations about culture, history, and identity happen in an art room when a student is relaxed enough to talk while painting.
A flexible performance space for drama, acting, directing, and technical production. The layout changes depending on what is being rehearsed or performed. The intimate setting means the audience is close, which teaches young performers something very different from standing on a massive stage where nobody can see their face.
Different styles, proper flooring, mirrors, and teachers who know what they are doing. Dance here is not just for annual day. It runs through the year. Students build coordination, rhythm, fitness, and the kind of body confidence that helps in everything else, not just dance.
Instruments, recording equipment, space for group rehearsals and solo practice. Students explore different genres, learn to read music, and perform regularly. There is something about playing an instrument with other people that teaches collaboration in a way no group project ever can.
Chemistry, Biology, and Physics each have their own lab. These are not dusty rooms that get opened once a month. They are used regularly, and students handle real equipment and run real experiments. A child who has actually mixed chemicals and watched a reaction happen understands chemistry differently from one who only reads about it.
Latest hardware and software. Coding, multimedia production, research projects, and digital literacy. The lab runs workshops and collaborative projects. In 2025, a student who cannot navigate technology confidently is at a disadvantage, and we would rather they figure that out here than later.
This is where things get built. LEGO resources, 3D printers, design tools. Students prototype, test, fail, adjust, and try again. The STEAM Studio connects science, technology, engineering, arts, and maths into actual projects rather than keeping them in separate textbooks. It is messy, noisy, and probably the most productive room in the school.
Students programme robots, work through computational thinking problems, and get introduced to AI concepts starting from the early grades. The lab at our Indirapuram, Ghaziabad campus follows a structured course, so students build skills progressively rather than doing a random robotics workshop once a year.
An outdoor space where students observe life cycles, understand ecosystems, and spend time with nature. It sounds simple, and it is. But a child who has watched a caterpillar turn into a butterfly has a relationship with biology that no textbook chapter can create.
Students plant herbs, grow vegetables, and learn about sustainability by actually doing it. This ties into science, nutrition, and environmental awareness. And honestly, a kid who has grown their own tomato tends to eat their vegetables with slightly less complaining.
